Stevenage have got the ball rolling

Stevenage Borough harshly missed out on promotion to the Football League fourteen years ago due to the size of their ground. After sixteen years in the Blue Square Premier, Stevenage were feeling a little hard done by after losing their play-off semi final in the 2008/09 season. However, 2010 is a completely different story, Stevenage have confirmed their place in the League for the 2010/11 season, after being crowned champions of Blue Square Premier this season.

The team must be excited for their first feel of League football, which is seen as the ultimate achievement for many non-league football teams- especially due to the success of teams such as Aldershot and Dagenham.

Stevenage have started pre-season training in their brand spanking new kit, and are ready to hit the ground running as newbies to the Football League. Their first match is against Macclesfield, in front of their own fans at Broadhall Way, on August 7th.

CONGRATULATIONS TO FOOTBALLS NEXT STAR

Ben Greenhalgh has swapped Orpington for Italy after winning last nights televised final of a competition to find Football's Next Star.

The San Siro is a long way from Welling United's Park View Road, which was where Ben was originally planning to play his football this season.

The 17 year old was one of the 10 youngsters battling it out for a contract with Serie A champions Inter Milan - currently managed by former Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho.

Ben's attempts to impress the self-proclaimed 'Special One' formed part of the new Sky One show Football's Next Star. Throughout the course of the seven-part series the youngsters worked with Mourinho and former England star Jamie Redknapp to hone their skills and hopefully win a playing contract at the San Siro.

Left-winger Ben earned his place in the finals after impressing the judges at one of several national road shows, which he was entered into by his Kent youth team coach. He eventually made the final 10 after impressing Inter youth coaches Paolo Migliavacci and Marco Monti, the latter of whom oversaw the youngsters progress during their time in Italy and was responsible for deciding who would leave the competition from week to week.

Ben said: "There were a lot of problems because I had just signed a contract with Welling before I took part in the competition, but because I was under 18 I was able to get out of it. In the end Welling were quite good about it, but it was quite stressful because it still hadn't been sorted out the night before the people on the show needed it to be. I joined Welling because the manager (Jamie Day) said that a professional club would see me and sign me up, but I felt it was a much better opportunity to take part in this competition."
